Who We Are

We believe in one humanity.

Uncharted Territory is a New York based nonprofit theater company. We believe our world is made of many cultures, many stories, many perspectives, and one humanity. When a part of our humanity is fractured, we all are. We believe that honest storytelling, followed by honest dialogue, is our way back to each other.

We bring the unheard stories of disenfranchised and marginalized communities to life — using the power and intimacy of live theater to challenge entrenched biases, reshape misperceptions, and bring us home to each other.

What We Do

Theater that empowers.

Uncharted Territory produces theater that empowers audiences to take control of their own understanding of world events — past and present. We amplify the stories of communities too often marginalized by propaganda, systemic bias, and ethnocentric perspectives — and we extend every production beyond the stage with a post-show discussion that transforms the audience's emotional openness into genuine civic dialogue.

The post-show discussion is not a supplement to the experience — it is the reason this company exists. It is where theater becomes action. Following each performance, we host a structured discussion bringing together scholars, journalists, artists, cultural leaders, and community voices representing a genuine range of perspectives and lived experiences.

Our panelists are carefully curated to represent balance — not to reach consensus, but to model something increasingly rare: the willingness to sit with complexity, listen across difference, and leave the room more open than when they entered.

When a story is chosen with intention, performed with reverence, and followed by genuine dialogue — it becomes something more than theater. It becomes an antidote.

How We Begin

Our inaugural production.

Tennis in Nablus  ·  by Ismail Khalidi

Sharp, funny, and utterly human — Tennis in Nablus draws you in with charm and wit before revealing the full weight of what it carries. Set in 1939 British Mandate Palestine, it follows a diverse ensemble of Palestinian Muslims, Christians, and Jews whose lives, loves, and friendships are bound together even as colonial rule threatens to pull them apart.

It illuminates how the seeds were planted that would later grow into the Middle Eastern reality we are living inside today — offering context almost entirely absent from contemporary discourse, through the most disarming of entry points: genuine wit and warmth.

In the Theater

Each production targets a diverse audience through partnerships with universities, civic organizations, and cultural institutions.

Beyond the Stage

Post-show discussions are documented as short-form video and written content — a living archive of civil discourse.

Over Time

Subsequent seasons expand into additional productions and school and university programs — civic engagement rooted in the arts.

The Work

A repertoire of productions and recorded dialogues that serve educators and communities long after the curtain falls.

Audiences who arrive as strangers and leave in conversation.
